Letter from the President:
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! As I begin my first year as PTO President, I look back at the amazing accomplishments of the PTO over the last number of years. I certainly have some big shoes to fill! However, I am excited for the challenge and blessed to have several of the past PTO Board Members continuing this year, as well as, some awesome new members. I know we each have the best interests of maintaining and improving upon the many opportunities the PTO has been able to offer the students and families of St. Jude School.
Every year the PTO works hard to put the proceeds from the various activities and fundraisers back into the school, whether it is the school facility or the support of the teachers and staff. Last year the PTO provided additional SmartBOARD training for all the teachers, purchased new playground equipment, new supplies for the art room, new books and Accelerated Reader tests for the library and paid for t-shirts for spirit days, Bible Bowl, Power of the Pen and 8th Grade shirts. The PTO also hosted many events including Meet the Teacher Night, Kindergarten, 1st Grade and New Student Orientations, Trunk or Treat, Christmas Carnival, Grandparents Day, Everybody Counts and Field Day. Our children would not have hot lunches if it were not for the dedication of the women (and men) who run and volunteer for the Premier and Restaurant Hot Lunch Programs. In addition, a large monetary donation was given to the parish to purchase new textbooks for the school and assist in keeping tuition costs down.
At the end of last year, the PTO started and funded the One Call Now Program which will be a great resource for notifying families of school closings and important announcements. Over the summer, the PTO purchased and had installed lockers in all Grades 4-8 classrooms, as well as, new teacher storage units for these grades. New this year in early August, the PTO hosted an Ice Cream Social and informational meeting for all Kindergarteners, 1st Graders and their parents. Check out the PTO website for a full listing of the many huge investments and contributions the PTO has made over the past year. With the help of all, we hope to be able to continue these types of activities, contributions and improvements.
PTO is an organization that is in need of everyone to share their gifts, whether it's one of time, talent, or treasure. Thank you to all of you who have worked so hard in the past! In order to carry on this incredible legacy that has done so much for all of our children, I ask each of you to jump at the many opportunities within PTO. I look forward to working with each and every one of you and to an exciting 2010-2011 school year!
Loyally,
Lori Rodgers
