St. Jude softball offers a fun and welcoming environment for girls at St. Jude in grades K-8 to grow in skill, sportsmanship and spirit. St. Jude Softball is a member of GWAC (Girls Western Athletic Conference)

Grades K-2 are instructional (no scores are reported) and coach pitch. Levels are Pre-K/K and 1st&2nd.

Grades 3-8 are competitive (scores are reported) and fast pitch. Levels are 3rd&4th, 5th&6th and 7th&8th.


Registration

Softball signups are Dec. 1st - Jan. 31st. Register through Blue Sombrero (instructions included in the "Hey Jude" school newsletter and church bulletin).

Cost for Pre-K/K and 1st & 2nd grade is $50. Cost for 3rd-8th grade is $60. A family sports fee of $50 will be added if this is the first St. Jude sport played by any child in your family during the 2020-2021 school year.


Schedule

Practices begin in late March. K-2nd teams have field practice once a week. 3rd-8th grade teams have field practice twice a week. Additional batting practice is at the coaches' discretion.

League games start in mid/late April

  • K-2nd grade teams have 8 league games.
  • 3rd-8th grade teams have 10 league games. League champions for grades 3rd-8th is determined by their league game standings.

There are two optional tournaments for 1st-8th grades:

  • Our Lady of Victory Pre-season tournament is in April.
  • St. Ignatius' Post-Season tournament is in June.

Equipment & Uniforms

Players must have their own gloves and wear softball, gym, soccer or turf shoes. Bats and helmets are provided but players may use their own. 

Please note for grades 3-8, bats must meet the 2004 ASA Bat Performance Standard, bear either the 2000 or 2004 ASA certification marks and must not be listed on the USA Softball Non-approved bat list found here. If you are unsure if a bat is in compliance, visit the USA Softball equipment website and use the drop down feature under "USA Softball TESTING & CERTIFICATION PROGRAM".

  • Uniform jerseys should be line/air dried to avoid peeling numbers
